You guys will be so proud of me. I had a three day weekend and I worked very hard on a couple of projects. I was focused and dedicated and didn't even take a nap when I was supposed to be working.

It was awesome! But, then I forgot to take the pictures off my camera so I have nothing to show you. Sadness!

But, that just means I'll have more to show you tomorrow. I can't even give you a hint because then I won't feel like working on on these particular projects tonight. I don't know why this happens...but it always does!

Also, this weekend is a four day weekend for me and if I can finish these two projects by then, I have plans to rearrange my studio. I realize I've been talking about my studio since I started this blog and yet you've never seen it. That's because it's always so messy! But, I'm getting pretty sick of stepping over stuff and having to clear off my cutting table all the time so I think this weekend is the weekend for cleaning. I'll post some "before" pictures later this week to make the "after" pictures even more awesome. Stay tuned...

One last thing before I move on

So, I know I said I wasn't going to post about Twilight for a while but I just have one more thing to show you.

Remember that little crush I have on Jasper? Well, it was only a matter of time before I thought of something I could make to express my love. I searched on etsy for jasper stones and found this:

jasper bead

A jasper bead complete with a naturally formed heart! I love how it's flawed, covered in scars like Jasper's skin. It's pale and smooth and I bought it immediately!

jasper necklace

I turned it into a necklace Tuesday night...something simple but just what I wanted. In addition to this and possibly an Edward necklace, I'm playing around with Twilight quilt ideas but nothing has caught my attention yet. I know there's a Twilight block of the month but it's not really my thing.

Ok, I'm done now. I leave you with this:

No triangles allowed!

Oh my gosh, you guys...you have no idea how much I've wanted to make one of these beautiful zig-zag quilts. I didn't talk about it before because I hate, HATE triangles and was never actually going to make one. But look here, a zig-zag quilt that requires NO triangles!

After looking through some of my favorite zig-zag quilt photos, it seems I prefer the scrappy triangle look mixed with a lot of white. Unfortunately, this method won't give me that look but I don't mind since I won't have to match triangle points. Stupid, stupid triangles. Why do they look so cool and yet suck so much?

I think I might try this out with some of the Freshcut fabric I've been too scared to cut up. Of course, I suppose I should wait until I finish up a few of the quilts that have deadlines first. Darn it.

I am not ashamed.

In case I didn't mention it before, I have (self-diagnosed) social anxiety. I spent a lot of my life being embarrassed by normal things like buying toilet paper or talking to strangers or doing things that might possibly be construed as silly. And while I'm definitely not "cured", I've worked hard over the years to overcome the worst of my fears, to get rid of the nonsense that was getting in the way of the life I wanted to live.

It was hard at times (and is still hard at times) but I know that life is short and all we have at the end are memories of a life well lived. A life filled with friends and laughter and silly moments. A life filled with accomplishments, large and small.

twilight party

I think my one squinty eye says it all. It happens when I’m having so much fun that I forget to worry about keeping it from squinting. Karrie and I had such a great time yesterday. It was a good day, a silly day, a day to laugh at ourselves and to be ourselves without regret.

twilight party

I think this will be the last Twilight post for a long while because, believe it or not, I do have other things going on in my life. I've got the cleaning bug so you'll see studio photos soon. I'm even doing a little knitting! So, Twilighters and non-Twilighters alike, stay tuned...

Hey everyone! I just wanted to stop in to say hi from the Twilight DVD release party here at Karrie's house. We've just finished watching the DVD extras and now we're taking a break to make cookies and pizza rolls before we start in on the movie.

Check out all our sweet Twilight stuff:

We're definitely kicking back in style tonight and Karrie is pulling out all the stops including buying us these wicked awesome t-shirts. Go Team Edward!

More updates and embarrassing pictures tomorrow!

I heart lots of things. Who knew?

I haven't been posting lately because I haven't been doing much lately. I've mostly been moping around the house doing nothing and feeling bad about it. The good news is that I think my moping days are nearing an end. The bad news is that it’s been very easy to ignore my projects and my obligations, so easy that I feel a bit overwhelmed by all I have to do now. I’m testing the waters again and starting out slowly.

So slowly, in fact, that going to the grocery store on Sunday was an accomplishment. And putting new sheets on the bed was an accomplishment. Ok, so I took the sheets off the bed but forgot to wash them so I slept on a blanket last night…but I’ll wash them tonight. Yes, I only have one set of sheets because I think sheets are too expensive and I don’t like buying them on principle.

Another accomplishment: I made banana bread! I took a few slices, some strawberries and my book and read in bed for a few hours. Then I took a nap. Before that, though, I dug through one of my many piles to find these pillowcases:

embroidered pillowcase

My mom embroidered them for my birthday last summer. I’ve wanted to embroider pillowcases for a long time but it’s something I just never seem to make time for. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have a comfy spot to sit and embroider since I don’t have a couch. Perhaps my hatred of expensive bedding prevents me from buying the pillowcases in the first place. Perhaps I don’t know if the pillowcases should be pre-washed to avoid shrinking after the embroidery is finished or if the embroidery floss will shrink too, in which case, maybe I shouldn’t pre-wash.

All I know is that these are silly things that keep me from a hobby that I enjoy. I also know that feeling mopey is a silly reason to let the rest of my life fall to pieces. I know it’s to be expected at times in our lives but I’m getting tired of feeling out of control.

And, most importantly, I know that there’s someone out there who loves me no matter what. Someone who does things only moms can do in the special way only moms know how. It makes everything just a little easier.

It also helps to have all of you out there, showing me who you are and letting me show you who I am. I truly appreciate all of you who've been there for me when I haven't been feeling up to my usual self. I definitely heart you guys!

Sun falling through leaves.

I made this quilt for a friend, even though I was pretty sure she wasn’t going to like it:

sunny quilt

The inspiration was sun falling through leaves, a phrase she used when describing her favorite summer colors. It's supposed to be a summery picnic blanket or a sunny mid-winter-pick-me-up blanket.

She received it yesterday and said she loved it. So, that’s a relief!

My quilt count for the year stands at two! I’m getting better at this whole make a goal and stick with it thing. I’m still working on that block of the month quilt as my March quilt but the hexies got in the way last weekend. I’m also working on a quilt for my mom that needs to be finished by March 27 so that might be two quilts for March. Yes!

Serious crushing.

I saw Twilight in the theater twice this weekend because I’m in love with a vampire and love makes you do crazy things. For a long time I’ve been hiding my true obsession. I didn’t want anyone to know because I didn’t want any competition. You see, while I can’t deny the perfect perfection of Edward:

I’m actually in love with Jasper.

I didn’t get to know him very well in the books but when I saw him on the big screen, it was love at first sight. I wasn’t prepared for it but it happened just the same.

Edward will always hold a special place in my heart but about one thing I’m absolutely certain: I’m unconditionally and irrevocably in love with Jasper.

Moving on…I bet you want to know what I did this weekend besides crush on imaginary characters. I spent most of the weekend crushing on my other love: hexagons.

hexagons in the making

I want to make a quilt using all my favorite scraps so that one day, when I’m old, I can look back on these beautiful fabrics and remember all the fun I had with them. I’ll remember the quilts I made and the friends and family who received them. It’ll be almost completely hand sewn (as is the nature of hexagons) and quite an accomplishment.

pop garden hexagons

In my head, I call it my Pop Garden quilt because I’m not very creative when it comes to naming quilts and because I’m using some Pop Garden fabrics and because I hate calling it a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt because, you know, I’m young and sassy and it just bugs me for some reason.

This is quite a long term project so we’ll see if I’ll ever finish it. I’d really like to and, if all the fates align, I'll have years to work on it. And now, back to my regularly scheduled pining for Jasper…
