It looks like it’s going to be diamonds then…

Fact: I don’t like piecing quilts with difficult shapes like diamonds, curves or triangles.

Fact: I’ve never tried piecing diamonds or curves because the triangles were bad enough.

Fact: I’m annoyed that batiks cost so much and are difficult to shop for online.

Fact: I’m annoyed at how thin some batiks feel compared to quilting fabric (even though they cost more than quilting fabric).

Fact: Bears eat beets. Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

Fact: I’m planning a diamond quilt (similar to these quilts) for my aunt using batiks in varying shades of blue to give the effect of water.

Fact: I’m out of my mind.

Question: Where do you get your blue/teal batiks that don’t have designs on them?

Question: Can you think of any quilt pattern that, when assembled, looks like water and is not made out of diamonds or curves?

Question: Don’t you wish it was Thursday so you could watch The Office?

That is all.

  1. You know, as I was reading this, I was thinking how much you sounded like Dwight Schrute....and then I got to the bottom and cracked up. Awesome.

  3. Not a pattern, 'zacly, but I saw this awesome art quilt (wall sized) that gave the effect of water with the quilting. Most of it was a pale blue batik rectangle for the water, a beach sand coloured rectangle for the beach and three appliqued seagulls. The "water" effect was achieved through the quilting. I have a picture of it somewhere which I'm willing to scan and upload it for you, but it will take some time if you're willing to wait.

    1. Batiks online - try thousandsofbolts.com I've had some luck with them in the past

    2. Diamonds. I saw a Kaffe Fasset diamond quilt that I love, adore and am terrified by. I bought the book but still haven't tried it.

    You're brave.

  4. and er...ignore the "Batike" which ends my comment. It was supposed to be deleted although I kind of like the unexpected randomness of its placement... ;)

  5. Haha! I love the unexpected randomness too!

Hmmm...I was planning to quilt it with a wavy sort of stitch to help the diamonds appear more, well, wavy...but using one fabric is an interesting idea. I think I'm still stuck on the whole light to dark thing, though. I did see some blenders that do that. If you feel like posting the pic, I'd love to see it. But not if it's too much trouble for you.

And thanks for the fabric link, I'm off to check it out right now. And I'm also off to search for Kaffe Fasset diamond quilts. :)
